BAREILLY: In a shocking incident, a woman was set ablaze and pushed from the third floor of a residential building allegedly by her husband and in-laws on Wednesday morning in UP's Moradabad. According to officials, the couple got married in 2011, but didn’t have a child. Police have lodged an FIR against seven persons, who are currently on the run.

Police said the deceased, Pushpa Kandpal (32), was originally from Bageshwar district in Uttarakhand. “In 2011, she got married to Tribhuvan Kandpal, a resident of Meerpur locality under Majhola police station in Moradabad. During investigation, it has come to our knowledge that at the time of their marriage, Tribhuvan had told the woman’s family that he was a teacher, while he was then jobless. The woman’s brother, Basant Ballabh, has said that her husband used to torture her for dowry,” inspector Vikas Saxena, station house officer of Majhola police station, said.

The woman’s neighbours called police and informed her family about her death. On reaching Moradabad, the aggrieved family reached Majhola police station and lodged a complaint seeking strict action against the accused.

Ballabh said, “Soon after their marriage, her in-laws began torturing her. They used to abuse her and often beat her up demanding money. Since the couple did not have a child, they blamed her for that. However, my sister never complained about them to us, though we knew about her living conditions.”

The SHO said that an FIR has been lodged against the woman’s husband and six others under IPC sections 304B (dowry death) and 498A (cruelty by husband and in-laws).
