For the record: The Jefferson District final features a pair of teams that did not compete in Division II last season. Chardon, moved down from D-I, defeated Geneva, 4-2, May 16. Gilmour, a D-III competitor in 2017, advanced past Cortland Lakeview, 3-1. ... The Jefferson District championship pits a pair of well-rounded teams. The Hilltoppers and Lancers feature strong pitching staffs, deep lineups and all-around fundamentals. ... Myles Metz starts for Chardon and owns a 5-4 record with a 2.47 ERA for the Hilltoppers. Chardon’s offense is led by Dakota Baldwin, Metz and Grant Goodge. The Hilltoppers’ lineup features seven regulars hitting .300 or better. ... Freshman Ben DeMell, a Penn State commit, receives the starting nod for the Lancers.
