Ujjain: Hundreds of devotees thronged Shani temple located on Indore Road and took a dip in river Kshipra on the occasion of Shani Jayanti coupled with ‘amavasya’ while married women performed ‘vatsavitri pujan’ on Tuesday. Devotees complained about stinky and muddy water of river Kshipra while taking a dip on Ramghat, Triveni, Mangalnath ghat and Siddhnath ghat.
Many other Shani temples located in the city were remained crowded with devotees. The idols of lord Shani in many temples were decorated attractively. People also paid obeisance at Shani temples located at Bambakhana, Danigate, Bengali Colony and Nikas Chouraha areas. Devotees offered sweets in the temples and hosted feast at many places in the city to mark Shani Jayanti.
At the Mahakaleshwar temple located Navgrih Mandir, special pujan-abhishek was performed by Central Simhastha Fair Organising Committee chairman Makhan Singh Chauhan and Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee member Vibhash Upadhyaya. Pt Radhe Shyam Shastri was present. In the evening, ‘chappan bhog’ was also offered.
Married women worshipped peepal trees and performed ‘vatsavitri pujan’ by draping trees with cotton threads and praying for longevity of their husband. Long queues of women were seen at Mahakaleshwar temple, Harsiddhi temple, Gopal Mandir and Chardham temple.
