‘Secular parties need to be united’

DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Tuesday said the outcome of the Karnataka Assembly election had necessitated the coming together of the secular parties in the country.

“While I congratulate the BJP on its success, I reiterate that unity among secular parties is necessary to remove the communal party [from power],” he said.

When asked about the claim of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan that Tamil Nadu would get its rightful share of Cauvery water only if the BJP was elected to power, Mr. Stalin said the BJP government should implement the order of the Supreme Court.

“They have been saying that the water will be released on May 29 and 30. I do not want to comment on their claim. But the new government should honour the court order and nurture the relationship between the two States,” he said.
