Hry procures 87.20L MT wheat

Haryana has recorded an all-time high wheat procurement since the inception of the state in 1966.

During the procurement season 2017-2018, a record 87.20 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured by state agencies, higher than the previous record of 87.16 lakh metric tonnes procured in 2012-13, said a spokesman of Haryana Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department on Tuesday.

He  said while state agencies had procured over 87.20 lakh metric tonnes of wheat, traders have mopped up 1,214 metric tonnes.

Haryana was targeting wheat arrival of over 75 lakh tonnes during this Rabi season.

The procurement had begun on April 1 in the state.

Giving details of the wheat procured by government agencies, he said that over 35.15 lakh metric tonnes has been procured by Haryana State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (HAFED), whereas Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department has purchased over 26.17 lakh MT of wheat.

He said that Food Corporation of India has purchased over 10.52 lakh MT of wheat and Haryana Warehousing Corporation has purchased more than over 15.33 lakh MT of wheat.

District Sirsa is leading in wheat arrival where over 12.03 lakh MT of the crop had been procured followed by Karnal, which recorded more than 9.16 lakh MT of wheat arrival, the spokesman said.

Similarly, over 7.54 lakh MT of wheat have been procured in Jind, over 7.28 lakh MT in Fatehabad, more than 7.06 lakh MT in Kaithal, over 5.94 lakh MT in Kurukshetra, over 5.94 lakh MT in Hisar, more than 4.75 lakh MT in Sonipat among other districts, he added.
