Flower show concludes

Even though the annual flower show organised in connection with the summer festival officially concluded here on Wednesday, the Horticulture Department has decided to continue the flower arrangements for five more days for the benefit of the tourists thronging the hill station taking advantage of the summer holidays.

Officials sources said that the all the flower arrangements, the replica of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, aeroplane, tractor, cartoons, and dolls will be continued without dismantling till May 21. This has brought much joy to the tourists and the people of the western districts.

The five day annual summer festival concluded on the hill station of Yercaud on Wednesday with the distribution of awards to best stalls, and departments.

The District Collector, Rohini R. Bhajibhakare, was the chief guest.

The stall put up by the District Rural Development Agency was adjudged best stall and the Collector handed over the shield to Arul Jothi Arasan, the project director.

The stall of the Social Welfare and Nutritious Noon Meal Department was adjudged the second best, followed by the stall of Forest Departmen and Town Panchayat Department.

The commendation certificates for the outstanding service was given to the Police, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, state Transport Department, Yercaud Panchayat Union, Salem Bike Friends Association.

Earlier, dogs, cats, colourful parrots of different varieties from across the State participated in the pet animal show conducted by the Animal Husbandry Department.

More than 100 dogs belonging to 35 different varieties participated in the dog show. The presence of superior varities such as German Shepherd, Cradon, Siberian Husky, Bully Kutta, Biennial, Kombai dogs were the cynosure of all eyes.

Police dogs participated in a talent show which attracted a large number of tourists who thronged the hill station on the final day.

Karagam, kaavadi, puliyattam, and silambattam organised by the Tourism Department enthralled the visitors.
