As of today, it looks like consumers will be paying a little more at the pump.
According to recent survey done by AAA Michigan, for the first time in three years, the statewide average daily gas price rose above $3 to $3.02. Metro Detroit’s average also hit $3 a gallon.
AAA says the higher gas prices have to do with increased oil prices, increased demand as the summer driving season begins, the switch over to more-expensive-to-produce summer blend gasoline and regional gasoline inventories steadily declining.
The state price was 14 cents more than last week’s average and about 63 cents more than it was at this time last year. Metro Detroit’s price was about 10 cents more than last week’s average and bout 63 cents more than it was last year.
Michigan currently ranks eleventh in the nation for the most expensive average daily gas price and first in the nation for the biggest change in average weekly gas price.
The lowest average prices in the state can currently be found in the Marquette area, where it’s about $2.93 a gallon. The highest average price can be found in the Saginaw/Bay City/Midland area, in Mid-Michigan, where it’s about $3.06 a gallon.
This daily survey was conducted based on credit card swipes and direct feeds in cooperation with the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) and Wright Express for statistical reliability. Only regular, unleaded gasoline was surveyed.
