Steps to meet rising need for IT office space

The government is gearing up to meet the demand for more office space from IT companies making a beeline for Kerala.

According to official estimates, IT parks in the State together have leased out 45 lakh sq ft of space over the past two years. As many as 104 companies are in the queue for more office space in Phase 1 of the Technopark campus here, with 97 others are awaiting workspace in Phase 3.

The scheduled completion of Technocity at Pallipuram by April 2019 is expected to relieve the pressure on the Technopark campus by adding 2,00,000 sq ft of workspace.

A total of 25,000 sq ft has been newly constructed atop the Gayatri building at Technopark and handed over to start-up companies. Another 10,000 sq ft has also been built below the Park Centre.

The Jyotirmayi complex at Infopark, Kochi, and the Sahya building in Cyberpark, Kozhikode, are in high demand. As many as six floors of the nine-storey Jyotirmayi building are already occupied while eight companies have shifted to the four-storey Sahya building.

Wi-Fi campus

An official pressnote issued here on Tuesday said the completion of SmartCity, Kochi, and Uralungal Cyber Park, Kozhikode, would attract more IT firms to Kerala.

Meanwhile, Cyberpark, Kozhikode, is set to become the first Wi-Fi campus in Kerala. The construction of a new 50,000 sq ft building on the campus has been approved.

The pressnote said efforts were on to develop Cyberpark as a mobile technology hub while Infopark, Kochi, would be developed as a centre of excellence in Internet of Things and Technocity as a hub for finance, cyberspace, blockchain, and cybersecurity. The government has also unveiled plans to establish a mobile incubation centre at Cyberpark.
