BJP cadre on cloud nine

Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday celebrated the party’s performance in the Karnataka Assembly elections at the party’s local office here. The cadre were seen bursting crackers and distributing sweets, despite the uncertainty over forming of government in Karnataka.

The workers gathered at the BJP office near the Indira Gandhi square and raised slogans in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Puducherry unit of the BJP has hailed the performance of the party in Karnataka. BJP’s local unit president V. Saminathan said that it was “a big win” for the performance of the Modi-led Union government as the people of Karnataka had come out in full endorsement of the BJP.

“The Congress, particularly AICC president Rahul Gandhi, had been criticising the Prime Minister during election campaigns in Karnataka. But, the people have brushed aside those comments as unacceptable,” Mr. Saminathan said.

The Karnataka voters have backed the policies of the BJP and the implementation of various welfare schemes of the Centre. As regards Puducherry, the BJP’s target is to establish its government in the future and also wrest the lone Lok Sabha seat in the 2019 elections. The BJP’s performance has vindicated the repeated assertion of Mr. Modi that Puducherry and Punjab alone would have Congress rule, Mr. Saminathan said.

‘No schemes’

The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has termed the Karnataka poll outcome as neither a victory nor an achievement as the Prime Minister and the BJP had not projected any schemes implemented by the NDA in the last four years.

CPI (M) secretary R. Rajangam said that Mr. Modi was “focused on the need for a function for Tipu Sultan and a Ram Mandir instead of doing good for the people. He stooped low during his rallies and hence there is no justification for the BJP to claim that it is a victory for the Prime Minister’s policies,” Mr. Rajangam alleged.
