Elite school comes out withimpressive performance

The ‘elite school’ established by the district administration to offer specialised coaching for bright government school students hailing from poor family background has come out with impressive performance with 34 of the 43 students scoring 1,000 and above out of 1,200 marks in the Plus Two examinations.

Five years ago, the then Collector K. Nanthakumar introduced the ‘elite school’ to help poor students studying in government schools to perform well in Plus Two examination and secure admission to professional courses. The present Collector, S. Natarajan, gave a new impetus to the school.

Last year, 63 of the 68 students in the ‘elite school’ passed the examination by scoring 1,000 and above and many of them joined government engineering colleges by scoring high cutoff marks. This year, 10 students scored 1,100 marks and above and 24 students scored above 1,000 and below 1,100 marks. Besides specialised coaching, the district administration offered free lodging and boarding facilities for the students.

Two students – K. Prakash and N. Usha Nanthini – scored full marks in Mathematics. All but three students had appeared for NEET in Tamil medium on May 6. Those who scored high cutoff marks for engineering would prefer engineering courses, the school coordinator said.
