The Sitapur district administration’s awareness campaign against feral dog attacks continued on Tuesday as officials visited villagers and gathered information about dog sightings.

During tehsil diwas, the district magistrate asked officials to inform locals about the attacks.

“All efforts are being made to make people aware about the situation. We are using all channels to reach out to the villagers in the affected areas,” said Sitapur district magistrate Sheetal Verma.

The DM also ordered distribution of pamphlets in the affected areas in the Khairabad block.

“The pamphlets bear information about the attacks and ways to prevent them. They also have phone numbers of administrative officials who are handling the operation,” said the DM.

“We have also released a helpline number to register incidents of feral dog sightings and attacks. This number is mentioned on the pamphlet,” the officer added.

The district administration also employed drummers and announcers to visit each of the 22 affected villages and urge people to not leave their children un-attended.

Teachers and private schools in the affected areas were also asked to inform the children about the attacks.

The extensive measures were being taken after chief minister Yogi Adityanath visited the district on Friday to take stock of the situation. He announced monetary relief to the affected families. The distribution of relief money had begun.

The forest department continued combing operation in search of feral dogs in Khairabad. The dogs were being caught and sent for sterilisation.
