More water to be released from Mettur

The Public Works Department (PWD) has stepped up the discharge of water from Mettur Dam for meeting the drinking water needs of the delta region to 2,000 cusecs once again on late Tuesday evening.

According to official sources, about 500 cusecs was discharged from the dam for the delta region since the last week of March and it was stepped up to 2,000 cusecs on May 10, following increased inflow. Later it was brought down to 1,500 cusecs only on Monday.

Once again the PWD augmented the discharge to 2,000 cusecs at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, the PWD sources said.

The water level in Mettur Dam stood at 33.85 ft on Wednesday against its full level of 120 ft. The inflow of water into the dam was 748 cusecs.
