No more free parking?

Good (if controversial) question from public transport advocate Daniel Bowen this morning. If the price of parking is rising in the CBD, will they also start charging on Sundays?

The shops are open, more people work. What do you think? Let us know via email or Twitter.

On the trams

An update on the trams. Upsets on Victoria Parade:

Bike thrown into train

A rental bike was thrown from a footbridge into a moving near Birrarung Marr about 4.30pm on April 29.

The incident caused about $300,000 worth of damage. It happened after the Collingwood-Richmond clash.

Passengers were forced to evacuate. Were you there? Get in touch via email or Twitter.

On the roads

An update from VicRoads:

  • A car has broken down in the middle lane of the West Gate Freeway, heading inbound just before Grieve Parade.
  • A vehicle breakdown has also closed two right lanes citybound on the Tullamarine Freeway. It's just before Brunswick Road. There are delays from Bell Street.
  • A serious collision at Mitcham has closed outbound lanes of the Maroondah Highway and all lanes of Heatherdale Road in Ringwood. Police are on site. Mitcham Road is a good alternative to Heatherdale Road. Motorists heading east on the Maroondah highway should use Canterbury Road.
  • Two right lanes are closed on CityLink inbound on the approach to Brunswick Road due to truck breakdown. Heavy haulage is on the way.
  • There's been a crash on the Monash at Dandenong North. The accident scene is just before Police Road. The inbound far right lane has been closed. Police are on site.

Fire at Bimbo Deluxe

Sad news for lovers of cheap pizza this morning. Bimbo Deluxe on Brunswick Street has been damaged by fire.

The blaze started in the offices upstairs overnight but the popular pub was also affected. It's not known yet how long Bimbo will be closed after the fire, which isn't being treated as suspicious.
