Gratiot County will hire an individual to keep track of what it procures, its inventory and contracts.

The new position was approved on Tuesday by the board of commissioners to be created and advertised by county administrator Tracey Cordes to hire.

When hired, the new employee, working in the financial services department and under the guidance of its supervisor, will work a maximum of 20 hours per week at $16,479 per year including salary and benefits. The new employee could be bumped up in the future to .75 full-time equivalent. The goal of the hire is to save money by purchasing items with competitive pricing and in bulk, according to Cordes. The position would also help in creating a centralized system for maintaining inventories.

In addition, the board also approved extending an agreement with Montcalm County for animal control services for an additional six months through November.
