Mumbai Kamala Mills Fire: Bombay High Court to decide Ramesh Gowani’s bail on Thursday

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court is likely to decide the application moved by Kamala Mills owner Ramesh Gowani, seeking bail, on Thursday. The HC on Tuesday heard the arguments of Gowani and also the prosecution. Gowani has been arrested in connection with the horrific incident of Kamla Mills fire which killed nearly 14 people on December 29, last year. Since then, Gowani has been in custody and has sought bail on the ground that he was not at all aware of the illegalities in the 1 Above and Mojo Bristo restaurants, the eateries where the fire broke out.

Gowani had approached the HC in April and his bail plea was not heard till the last week of the month, which led him to move the SC. The top court having considered the matter, had directed the HC to decide Gowani plea in accordance with law.

On Tuesday, the vacation court presided over by Justice Vijay Achliya heard the arguments advanced by Gowani’s advocates and also by the special public prosecutor in the case. The prosecution while opposing Gowani’s bail plea argued that he being the owner of the land, was very much aware of all the illegalities being committed in the eateries – 1 Above and Mojo Bristo. Having heard the submissions, Justice Achliya posted the matter for Thursday.
