AMSTERDAM — The president of a Capital Region recycling firm was arrested following a State Police investigation that alleges about $150,000 was stolen from Stewart's Corp. in Saratoga County.
The investigation led to the arrest of Sam Donadio of Broadalbin, president of Power Recycling, a division of Amsterdam-based Power Pallet.
Donadio, 65, is charged with felony grand larceny after the investigation determined the Stewart's Corp. was shorted the money for returnable cardboard products. State Police said in a release that Donadio was allegedly behind Stewart's receiving a reduced amount for the returned materials over several years.
Donadio was arraigned in Wilton Town Court before Justice David Towne. He was released and is to appear in Malta Town Court on Thursday.
Both Power Recycling and Stewart's declined comment on Wednesday afternoon.
A law firm representing Power Recycling issued a statement on behalf of the business:
"In December 2017, a dispute developed between Stewarts Shops and Power Recycling over terms of a recycling contract, specifically contaminated, non-conforming recycling material," the statement said.
"Power Recycling funded an independent accountant's review of all records in an effort to resolve this matter. After months of negotiations, Power Recycling's President is facing a charge in Saratoga County. He is represented by Attorney George Lamarche."
"Power Recycling assures its customers that this is an isolated incident and that the company has taken steps to confirm that this matter does not impact any other customers."
The law firm, Girvin & Ferlazzo, also noted that Power Recycling is a 42-year-old, family-owned business that employs 200 people in Montgomery County.
