Ayurveda labour room delivers a first

New labour room, with C-section facilities, was set up at a cost of ₹1 crore

The modernised labour room at the Women and Children Hospital of the Government Ayurveda College at Poojappura conducted its first delivery service on Wednesday, when doctors delivered the baby of Gopika and Sivaprasad from Vattappara.

Improved prospects

The facility will improve the prospects of Ayurveda obstetric and gynaecology services in the district, Health Minister K.K. Shylaja said. The modernised labour room as well as operation theatre facilities for conducting C-section deliveries in case of emergencies were set up in the hospital at Poojappura at ₹1 crore, after the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government assumed office.

New posts

The government had also allowed 29 new posts for the hospital, including that of anaesthesiologist, staff nurses, lab technician, operation theatre technician and Central Sterilisation Room technician so that the labour room and the operation theatre can be made functional.

The facility makes the 65-year-old Women and Children Ayurveda hospital at Poojappura the first Ayurveda hospital in the State which also offers delivery care services under modern medicine, with C-section facilities also.

Other treatments

The hospital also offers treatment for various reproductive issues of women, including infertility treatment, menstrual disorders, pre and post natal care services.
