This is what everybody’s doing when they’re glued to their screens, in one chart

How do you spend your internet minute?

Snap, swipe, like, #YOLO! By the time you finish reading this sentence, millions of texts have been sent, thousands of hours of media have been consumed and some smartass probably posted this GIF:

Yes, the internet is a busy place. But you already knew that. What you might not know, however, is just how busy it really is. Every minute of every day.

That’s where Lori Lewis and Chadd Callahan of Cumulus Media come in (hat tip: Visual Capitalist). They updated this stellar infographic of what’s happening across the internet in 2018, on average, every 60 seconds:

So, every minute, almost 1 million people log on to Facebook  , 266,000 hours of Netflix  are watched and 2.4 million Snapchat  snaps are fired off. Astonishing numbers there.

For some perspective on the pace of change across the internet, here’s the version of the chart we covered two years ago:

As you can see, Netflix hours have almost quadrupled over that time frame, and just about every other service (sorry, Vine) has seen a substantial pop, as well.

Safe to say Paul Krugman’s infamous prediction from 1998 — “The growth of the internet will slow drastically... it will become clear that the internet’s impact on the economy has been no greater than the fax machine’s” — hasn’t panned out just yet.
