NISKAYUNA - The driver who crashed a car, damaging a utility pole that dropped power lines and forced police to close busy Balltown Road, was charged with running from the scene of the crash, police said.

Devin Foster, 23, of Round Lake was accused of leaving the scene of an accident, speeding an other traffic violations after police said they found him Tuesday morning.

Foster's car crashed into a utility pole between Aqueduct and River Road.

The impact dropped power lines into the road. Balltown Road, a major artery that links southern Saratoga County to the sprawling tech businesses in Niskayuna, reopened at 1:25 p.m. after National Grid made repairs.

Morning commuters faced a traffic nightmare in northern Schenectady County.

That portion of Balltown Road is a major thoroughfare that drivers from Saratoga County use to get to Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, General Electric Research and Schenectady International, Environment One and several other major employers in the northwest quadrant of town.

The crash happened south of the Rexford Bridge.

Vehicles were detoured onto Aqueduct Road.
