Probe against AIMIM MLA

For ‘thrashing’ an in-custody accused

The city police have taken up an inquiry against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) legislator from Malakpet, Ahmed Balala, for allegedly thrashing a detenu at Chaderghar police station, who was arrested on the charge of attempt to rape a minor girl.

The accused Syed Ismail (35), a resident of Old Malakpet, was arrested on Friday night for attempting to rape a six-year-old girl.

DCP (East Zone) M. Ramesh said that an enquiry has been ordered and a case will be registered against the legislator and his party workers for attacking the accused inside that police station on Saturday.

On Friday, Ismail tried to assault the girl by luring her to his house. “However, the girl managed to escape from his clutches and informed about the incident to her parents,” he said. Based on the complaint lodged by victim’s parents, a case was registered and the girl was sent to Bharosa centre for medical examination where the cops also recorded her statement.

Sources said that Balala, along with his party workers, handed over the accused to the police station and asked them to take stringent action against him. Sultan Bazar ACP Dr. M. Chetana said that attempt to rape and sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act were invoked against the accused. Ismail was sent to judicial remand.
