Open Defecation-Free B’pur drive begins

The Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) launched a campaign named ‘Open Defecation-Free Brahmapur’ here on the occasion of the Mother’s Day on Sunday.

The programme would conclude on the Children’s Day on November 14.

Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Surjya Narayan Patro, Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Kumar Samal inaugurated the programme. Mayor K Madhavi urged upon all to provide cooperation to the BeMC in its efforts of making the city open defecation-free.

BMC Commissioner Chakraborty Singh Rathore informed that both community and individual toilets have been constructed across the city. He too stated that progammes are being held to create awareness among residents for use toilets.

Among others, MP Sidhanta Mohapatra, MLAs Dr Pradeep Panigrahi and Nandini Devi, RDC T Ao, SP Pinak Mishra, DRDA PD Bijay Amit Kalanga, Sub-Collector Sidhartha Sankar Swain, BDA Chairman Subash Moharana and Deputy Mayor Jyostna Nayak were present. Deputy Commissioner Sourendra Routray managed the programme.

On the occasion, poetesses, writers, police personnel, ASHA, Anganwadi and BMD employees were felicitated.
