ALIQUIPPA —A city official on social media identified the victim of a fatal Sunday night shooting, though few other details regarding the incident have been released.
In a Facebook post, Aliquippa Mayor Dwan Walker identified the victim as Rachael Deltondo, of Aliquippa. Walker extended his sympathy to her family.
“I am sending my deepest condolences to her family and friends,” he wrote. “RWG (Rest with god) Rachael [sic] Deltondo.”
The Beaver County Coroner’s Office has not confirmed the victim’s identity pending a Monday afternoon autopsy. Coroner David Gabauer said Monday morning his office was working to identify next of kin for the deceased.
According to Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier, state police, Aliquippa police and the Beaver County detectives were called at about 10:45 p.m. Sunday to Buchanan Street, just off Brodhead Road in Aliquippa for a reported shooting.
Neighbors in the area reported hearing between 10 and 12 shots fired and said the woman was shot just outside her home.
Lozier did not identify Deltondo, saying only that a woman pronounced dead at the scene.
“All we’re saying is this is an ongoing homicide investigation,” he said.
Officials at the Aliquippa Police Department on Monday afternoon said they were unable to confirm any details. According to court records, no charges have been filed in the case.
Deltondo was the subject of an Aliquippa police incident report which was sent from an anonymous email address in November 2017 to officials at Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School and members of the media. The report was from an incident in 2016.
The incident, ultimately, led to Deltondo’s suspension from her position pending an investigation by the school. Officials at PA Cyber were not available Monday to confirm Deltondo’s recent employment status.
The police report described officers finding Deltondo and the student together sitting in a parked car at an empty lot.
Deltondo was never charged in the case.
According to the incident report, police were on regular patrol at about 1:50 a.m. Feb. 6, 2016 when an officer noticed a car parked near the old Aliquippa Hospital property. Police said officers approached the vehicle and noticed “the windows were steamed over and the engine was not running.”
The officer identified Deltondo and asked why she and the juvenile were parked there, police said. According to the report, Deltondo told officers “she was just talking with the male,” who was her previous student, and “they were friends.”
Police said Deltondo told them “she didn’t want her fiancé to know that she was here parked because he would get mad.” She maintained she was only with the teen because “he was upset and needed someone to talk to,” police said.
According to the report, officers drove the teen home and told Deltondo that were “better places to just talk with a former student.”
The juvenile, who is named in the incident report, is now a legal adult. School officials said records indicate he was never a registered student at PA Cyber.
