Practicability in ranking in Entrance Examinations

| | in Bhubaneswar

Sir, In the Government of India’s all-India-level examinations such as JEE Main and Advance and other examinations, seats are generally reserved as per category. It is a fact that the qualifying score for the reserve category (SC, ST, OBC) is comparatively less than the general category candidates. But it is observed that sometimes performances of category candidates are satisfactory and that has been switched over to the general category seats. Following this erratic rules, seats in general category are shrinking and occupied by the reserve category candidates. At the same time, quite a good number of reserve category candidates are filling the gap securing minimum qualifying marks. Actually, with these existing norms, reserve category candidates are being benefited in both the ways.

It seems to be a debacle towards the general category candidates. The CBSE and the Government should review this framework; and it is expected that there might be rational thinking after monitoring qualifying marks of each category as the cutoff mark has been fixed category-wise and there should not be any jumping from one particular category to another. Seats in a particular category should not be snatched by another one by means of upgradation, overtaking; and riding off business should be prohibited in the interest of the promising youths of the country.
