When the crew of ‘Mr Chandramouli’ tried their hand at cricket

India clearly can’t get enough of cricket, with the IPL season going on. So, what happens when this hype spills over to our movie stars? The TV show, Ithu Enga Attam - Join the Game, on Star Sports 1 Tamil, tried to find out.

The show features the lead cast of the upcoming sports-related comedy-drama film Mr Chandramouli, trying their hand at cricket. It wasn’t a debut for some of them. “I’ve played for a tournament conducted by the Nadigar Sangam,” says Karthik, “I even managed to get a wicket by fluke at the time!”

Karthik teams up with his son Gautham for this flick, in which the latter plays a professional boxer. “The film’s script is family-oriented with elements of action and romance. Since it’s the first time I’m working with my father, it was a special experience.” Gautham wasn’t too much into cricket... till this year’s IPL started. “I’ve never watched cricket, as I have always been more into basketball and hockey. But this season, I’m following up on the games almost fanatically.”

Accompanying the two gentlemen was leading lady Regina Cassandra, who admitted to being a sports buff during her growing up years. “I used to play basketball during my school and college days. I’d always be out there playing anything that I could.” In the TV show, she did try out her cricketing skills. “Now the world will get to know that I don’t know much about this game,” she rues.

In the film, Regina playsGautham Karthik’s love interest, “I play Madhu in the film and I stand up for my boyfriend through his struggles,” she says.

The fun session ended with the crew of Mr Chandramouli having an animated discussion with Ma Ka Pa Anand on all things sport and movies. Clearly, film stars are on a different pitch these days.
