Indore: The decision to start conservation of Saraswati river was taken at a meeting presided over by district collector Nishant Warwade on Monday. The work to start from Tuesday will be completed by June 15. About 20 heavy earth moving machines will be deployed for the purpose.
The conservation work follows the directives of National Green Tribunal and will include proper disposal of silt to be excavated for desilting the river. Those present at the meeting included municipal commissioner Ashish Singh, additional collector Nidhi Nivedita, petitioner Kishore Kodwani and officers of other departments.
The departments, which have been entrusted with the work include Indore Municipal Corporation, Indore Development Authority, water resources department that have been told to work in a coordinated manner.
For deepening work, IMC will deploy 13 machines while four machines will be provided by Indore Development Authority and three machines will be given by water resources department.
The demarcation work of river is almost complete. The collector instructed that after deepening the work, demarcation marks should be made on both sides. Instructions for pitching and planting trees on both sides of the river were also given.
As reported earlier, an integrated plan for river’s conservation was discussed in a meeting held at collectorate on April 24. The conservation work will be carried out along 18- kilometer length, which will start from near Pipliyapala.
As per plan, no permission for the construction of the buildings will be given in river’s catchment areas. All the marriage gardens will have to set up water treatment plant and will have to follow standards laid down by MP Pollution Control Board.
