President Ram Nath Kovind visited an exhibition on Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) technologies at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Trombay, Mumbai on Tuesday.

He also dedicated several DAE facilities to the nation including Metal Fuel Pin Fabrication Facility, IGCAR, Kalpakkam and Integrated Centre for Crisis Management, a facility that monitors radiological data from country wide network of 504 radiation centres.

President also dedicated to the nation Multi-leaf Collimator system developed by BARC for the treatment of cancer patients. Multi-leaf Collimator system can deliver radiation dose exactly on the tumours having irregular shape.

DAE chairman Sekhar Basu presented the President, TCDM-1(Trombay Chhatisgarh Dubraj Mutant Rice), a high-yielding dwarf variety of rice developed by BARC.

Speaking on the occasion, the President said, India is recognised as one of the leading nations in the use of nuclear technologies across multiple disciplines, ranging from energy to agriculture and from medicine to waste management.

However, the journey towards excelling in this domain started at BARC almost six decades ago. Since then, the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) has grown to become a multidisciplinary organisation with facilities spread across the nation.

Acknowledging the achievements made by Indian nuclear scientists in using nuclear technology in the areas of healthcare, food and agriculture, water resources management and environmental protection, the President said, these achievements are commendable. He said, the DAE has an important responsibility in our national development process.

Governor of Maharashtra Vidyasagar Rao, Education Minister of Maharashtra Vinod Tawde and other dignitaries were also present on this occasion.
