The Indians on May 15 called up help for their wheezing bullpen by selecting the contract of right-handed relief pitcher Neil Ramirez from AAA Columbus.

Center fielder Bradley Zimmer was put on the 10-day disabled list with bruised ribs, retroactive to May 12, to create a roster spot.

Zimmer was injured in the seventh inning on May 5 when he crashed into the center-field wall at Yankee Stadium trying valiantly to catch a deep fly by hit by Austin Romine. Zimmer got a glove on the ball, but couldn’t hold on. Romine was credited with a double. Zimmer did not continue.

Zimmer missed games on May 6 and May 8 (the Indians were off May 7). He played on May 9 and was 0-for-4.

Zimmer is hitting .224 with two home runs and nine RBI. He has scored 14 runs.

Ramirez, 28, is 2-0 with three saves in 13 relief appearances for the Clippers this season. He has allowed 13 hits and five runs, all of them earned, in 17 -2/3 innings. He has 31 strikeouts.

In other news, starting pitcher Ryan Merritt was moved from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day DL Merritt has left knee and left shoulder soreness.
