There seems to be no end to the domination of Jos Buttler in this year’s Indian Premier League. So much so, that he has single-handedly kept Rajasthan Royals in contention for a playoff berth. On Sunday, the Briton scored a blistering 94 runs from just 53 balls against Mumbai Indians and guided his team to chase a target of 169 runs with ease. Buttler has been the lone warrior in the team, and has now scored five back-to-back fifties, a record In the IPL. Buttler is the join record-holder with Virender Sehwag, who scored five consecutive fifties for Delhi Daredevils in 2012. In the last 5 outings, Buttler has scored 67 against Delhi Daredevils, 51 and 82 versus Kings XI Punjab, followed by 95 and 94 against Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. His consistent run at the top of the order has helped RR lessen their batting woes. Buttler’s 95-run second-wicket stand with Rahane, that saw them through till the 13th over, was the highest partnership by a RR pair in IPL 2018.

Rajasthan Royals pacer Dhawal Kulkarni expressed confidence that his team can beat Kolkata Knight Riders riding on the momentum of registering three back-to-back victories in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Royals kept alive their play-off hopes by beating defending champions Mumbai Indians by seven wickets with two overs to spare on Sunday night. The Ajinkya Rahane-led side will face two-time champions KKR at the Edens Gardens. "All the games are crucial for us. Maybe, in the next game we've got a good chance to beat Kolkata Knight Riders. With the momentum that we've got, I'm sure we'll be able to do that," said Kulkarni at the post match press conference. Royals moved up to fifth spot with 12 points in as many games following their third victory on the trot. England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler continued his red hot form, smashing 94 in 53 balls, his second successive unconquered 90-plus score in the competition.

Warne also heaped praise on Jofra Archer, the medium-pacer who missed the first few games for the Royals but later emerged with some clinical shows to help the side get back on the winning track and said Rajasthan still have a chance to enter the Indian Premier League (IPL) play-offs. "Archer is a class player, with him we have more chance (to enter the play-offs). Disappointed not to have him for the first few games," the 48-year-old said. "Our chances are pretty good as players like Archer definitely help the side. He has been brilliant for us," added Warne. On being queried whether it has been a regret for him for not being able to lead the Australian side, the cricketing great said, "No, not all regret. Lucky to have played under good captains for Australia. I enjoyed being the vice-captain. I had a wonderful opportunity to work with captains like Mark Taylor, Allan Border. But I really enjoyed being the captain of Rajasthan in the first ever IPL 2008."

Terming Ajinkya Rahane as a "quality player", spin great Shane Warne reckons that Rajasthan Royals' skipper Rahane will soon return to the Indian limited-over squads. After a below par show with the six-match ODI squad in South Africa earlier this year, Rahane was excluded from the 16-man ODI squad for the three-match series in England in July. The 29-year-old was involved in a match-winning partnership with Virat Kohli in the first ODI in Durban, playing a 86-ball 79 run knock but could only manage 11, 8, 8 and 34 (not out) runs in the rest of the series. Warne said, "I think he (Rahane) is obviously disappointed. But Rahane is a quality player, he is a quality act. We know he has the class. He will be captaining the Test side against Afghanistan. Rahane is a wanted player and will be back. He will be playing ODIs and T20Is soon," opined the Rajasthan Royals' mentor.

Dinesh Karthik and Co. bounced back in style after succumbing to a 102-run defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians. They defeated Kings XI Punjab by 31 runs by piling up the season's highest total of 245/6, fourth highest in IPL history. Punjab fought hard riding K.L. Rahul's 66 but in the end it was too tall a mountain to climb. There were many positives for KKR from that game. Karthik continued to lead from the front with a belligerent 23-ball 50 while Sunil Narine smashed a 36-ball 75. There were important contributions from Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa and Andre Russell as well, and end-overs cameos from Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill. Russell was excellent with the ball too and so was M. Prasidh Krishna who grabbed two wickets. In the head-to-head tally, each team has seen the other off seven times in 16 meetings with two tied games.

Coming to the Royals, the Ajinkya Rahane-led side is on a three-game winning run. England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler has been in sublime form, racking up five consecutive half centuries. Kallis was asked how diffcult is it to play against teams who are peaking at the right time. "I think that's the strength of the IPL. Any team can beat any team, that's what makes it so exciting. There are our few sides who have gained form towards the back end of the tournament which is how you want it. So hopefully we can do the same and continue with our winning streak. Like I said, if we play two good games of cricket, destiny is in our hands." Plans to stop Buttler? "Wickets have been pretty good, it has given the batters an opportunity to score a lot of runs. He (Buttler) certainly has been consistent and in good form. So we obviously have to make sure we have some good plans against him and the rest of the batters tomorrow. But the rest of the batters as well. We have some plans for all their batters and hopefully they will work for us to win the game," Kallis said.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach and legendary South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis on Monday said they have their destiny in their hands going into the last two matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL). KKR, placed fourth in the points table, take on a resurgent Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday in a crunch clash which will go a long way in deciding the fate of both the teams. Both KKR and the Royals, placed fifth, are on 12 points from the same number of the matches. KKR have a slightly better net run rate. "Destiny is still in our hands. If we play two good games of cricket, we are through to the playoffs and that's what we are interested in... It's about taking one game at a time and play well tomorrow. We are not really worried about what the rest of the teams are doing," Kallis told reporters a day ahead of the crunch game.

If not for the late exploits of England batsman Jos Buttler, Rajasthan Royals’s campaign would have been in doldrums. So far despite Buttler rising to the fore, RR has enjoyed mixed fortunes in this year’s IPL, and so has skipper Ajinkya Rahane. After starting off the tournament decently, Rahane’s form has been patchy. In the 11 games he has played so far, he has accumulated just 280 runs at 28.00 and SR of 122.27. What this means is that Rajasthan has not got the starts that they would have hoped for. But come the match against Kolkata Knight Riders, Rahane would be hoping to get some runs under his belt. In fact he has a good record against KKR, having registered seven 30+ scores in the last 10 innings against the opposition. But what stands between Rahane and a big innings is his nemesis—Eden Gardens. He has scored 69 runs in 7 innings. His average of 9.85 is his worst at any venue in the IPL. The next on the list is Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, where he averages 16.17.

A victory for either side on the morrow may not rubber-stamp their passage to the playoffs but would surely help in the cause going to the final round of fixtures. KKR take on already-qualified Sunrisers Hyderabad away on May 19 while Rajasthan host Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore on the same day. Rajasthan were slow to get off the blocks and almost put themselves out of reckoning before some individual brilliance from England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler catapulted them back into reckoning. Against Mumbai Indians on Sunday night, Buttler racked up his fifth consecutive IPL fifty -- a feat previously managed only by Virender Sehwag -- while his team picked up their third back-to-back win on the spin. Even a week ago, Rajasthan, who won the inaugural IPL in 2008, were on the verge of elimination. But Buttler's unbeaten 94 ensured the Ajinkya Rahane-led side not only win but also improve their net run rate by reaching the target of 169 with two overs to spare.

Matching Buttler's exploits with the bat, West Indian bowling all-rounder Jofra Archer has been in fine form for the Jaipur-based side. In the last game, the 23-year-old removed Suryakumar for 38 and Rohit Sharma for a golden duck in successive deliveries, much like what Andre Russell did for Kolkata against Kings XI Punjab. Rajasthan would, thus, bank heavily on Buttler and Archer to deliver the goods. Australian opener D'Arcy Short has disappointed Rajasthan, mustering just 116 runs in his seven innings this season, at an average of 16.42. Skipper Rahane made a good-looking 37 against Mumbai and joined hands with Buttler in an important 95-run stand for the second wicket, but his form too has been a concern, managing single digit scores in his last three innings before this. Coming to the hosts, Dinesh Karthik and Co. bounced back in style after succumbing to a 102-run defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians.

They defeated Kings XI Punjab by 31 runs by piling up the season's highest total of 245/6, fourth highest in IPL history. Punjab fought hard riding K.L. Orange Cap Holder: After Match 43 (RR vs CSK), Rishabh Pant (DD) is the leading run scorer (orange cap holder) of IPL 2018, having scored 582 runs in 12 innings at an average of 52.90 and a strike rate of 179.62.
