The Aligarh Muslim University Students' Union (AMUSU) will intensify its protest demanding action against Hindu right-wing activists who trespassed into the varsity on May 2 seeking the removal of Pakistan founder M A Jinnah's portrait from the campus.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the AMUSU general body here last night, its spokesperson said today.
President of the students' union, Mashkoor Ahmad Usmani, secretary Mohammad Fahad and former president of the students union Faizul Hasan joined the indefinite hunger strike yesterday.
AMUSU leaders had also held a meeting with senior district officials in a bid to end the two-week-long protests on the campus.
The students' union also demanded action against the police officers responsible for a lathi charge on students on May 2.
At least six people were injured when the police lobbed teargas shells to disperse the protesting students.
