Minister calls for ways to increase people’s participation in SBM

Urban Development Minister Chandreshwar Prasad Singh today stressed on the need of adopting scientific management approach to increase people’s participation and awareness drives for the success of Swachchha Bharat Abhiyan in the State. While addressing a gathering during a workshop organised by State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) and WSUP Advisory India on the topic ‘Building Capacity for Accelerated and Sustainable Result Across Urban Jharkhand, Singh assured that the State government will give all support to the campaign.

“The government has accomplished several works in the field of cleanliness during the last three years. It is, therefore, all cities and towns of the State were declared ODF on October 2, 2017 itself. But, now the need is to sustain this cleanliness in the areas. It is more important to make people aware about the benefits of cleanliness than making strict laws,” said the Minister.

He further added that there was a need of scientific management to ensure increased participation of the people so that there is evident change in the society. In the past three years the government has helped make more than two lakh toilets andover 3000 community toilets, he said.

SUDA Director Rajesh Sharma said on the occasion that the campaign to make the State ODF will continue in Jharkhand to maintain cleanliness in Jharkhand. “It will be a challenge in the coming days to dispose the feces coming out of the toilets. Many cities are working on the same and civic body officials of the State need to work seriously on the same. Solid waste management is an important component of the Swachchh Bharat Mission. We are continuously working on it and the government is trying to ensure that the door to door collection of dry and wet garbage is done and its disposal is conducted scientifically,” he said.

WSUP India, Country Director, Akhilesh Gautam said that the cleanliness campaign can no longer be tied to government programmes.
