Police seeking second man over alleged abduction of 12-year-old boy

Police are appealing to the Chinese community for information about a second man allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a 12-year-old boy from the Gold Coast on Friday.

The boy was found unharmed across the New South Wales border in Grafton on Saturday, after being taken from outside his home in Mudgeeraba when walking home from school.

One man, 53-year-old Zhen Jie Zhang, was extradited from Grafton to Queensland on Monday, where he was expected to be charged with kidnapping at Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Detective Inspector Marc Hogan will make an appeal this afternoon for further information about a second man allegedly involved in the "pre-planned attack".

First-year Constable Pepsi Li will also make an appeal to the Chinese community for fresh information about the second man being sought.

Police believe the boy was kidnapped for ransom over gambling debts owed by his parents.

He was found in Grafton after a member of the public tipped off police on Saturday and reunited with his family.
