A surprise for music lovers

Back-to-back concerts come as a package of treat to weekend tourists

“Bring your friends and enemies,” was this unusual invite to a rock concert in the city. There were more instructions — more don’ts than dos — from this Chennai band that was making its debut in Puducherry with a show at the rooftop of Santhi Inn on Jawaharlal Nehru Street.

RYNO (RIP YOU a NEW ONE) touted their music to be “loved by those who have had enough of EDM and want to immerse themselves in the realms of trap, Afro, R&B”.

From across the world

The two-piece band takes pride in “curating rare gems of music from around the world.” More don’ts… “There would no song requests, only collaborated music tracks and individual DJ sets,” the band declared.

Sonically, they are a heavy dose of everything — from Afrobeat and R&B to the hardest rap anthems the Internet can boast of.

The band also performed its first original eponymous composition which was a look-up of the band’s influences, essentially old school hip-hop (rap).

RYNO, is a collaboration between Ezzyland and Mehar aka GMB, both DJs and music producers based in Chennai.

Well, as the band promised, there was no “EDM and festival trash.”

What a weekend for music lovers among the tourists as another Chennai-based band had only the previous day belted out hard melodic rock and blues with high energy upbeat vocals and guitar-driven riffs at the May edition of ‘Live Music - SecSatPondy’.

The show on the lawns of the PTDC-owned Seagulls restaurant featured the Johnny Bedford Band fronted by singer, lead guitarist Johnny Bedford, who has been a major influence for several successful Chennai bands like Second Coming, Rescue Squad, New Horizon and also Powerlyne, which, incidentally, played at SecSat years ago.
