On this day, May 14, in the year 1939, a Peru national became the youngest woman to give birth to a child. Lina Marcela Medina, who was born on 23 September, 1933, gave birth to a boy at the age of just five years.
Lina’s parents took her to doctor because of increasing size of her abdominal. Earlier, it was thought that she has a tumour, but later doctors confirmed that she was seven months pregnant. At the little age of 5 years, 7 months and 21 days to be exact, Lina became the youngest confirmed mother in medical history.
She gave birth to a boy by caesarean section and her surgery was done by giving anesthesia. Her son was named Gerardo. In young adulthood, Lina worked as a secretary in a clinic and gave up her education to take care of her son. Although Gerardo was a healthy boy after birth, he died at the age of 40 in 1979. Lina married Raúl Jurado and gave birth to a second child in 1972. At present, Lina is 84 years old and according to reports, she lives in a district of Peru’s capital Lima.
Lina never revealed about the father of the child nor did she revealed about the incident due to which she got pregnant. It was believed that she may not be aware of the incident due to her small age. Earlier, her father was arrested on the suspicion of child sexual abuse, but was later released due to lack of evidence. So the biological father of Lina’s son was never identified.
