Senator Hukill to honor civil rights leaders

State Senator Dorothy Hukill and Representative Patrick Henry will honor civil rights leaders Harry Tyson and Harriette Vyda Simms Moore 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 14, at 240 S. Clara Ave., DeLand. During the 2018 Legislative Session, Senator Hukill filed Senate Resolution 1934 and Representative Henry filed HR 8057 which recognizes December 15, 2018, as “Harry Tyson Moore and Harriette Vyda Simms Moore Day” in Florida. DeBary Hall hosts historic walking tour

Take a free, guided walking tour from DeBary Hall Historic Site, 198 Sunrise Blvd., to Gemini Springs Park beginning at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 16. Tour guides will explain the area’s history including the town’s namesake, the Native Americans who inhabited the region, and the development of Gemini Springs Park. Walkers will also learn about the area’s many plant, animal and fish species. The walk is three miles long and will include several stops along the way. Archaeologist to discuss NSB origins

Archaeologist Rebecca Harris will discuss the research she and her team are doing to uncover the history of New Smyrna Beach during a free program at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, 1001 S.
