The National Weather Service in Chicago issued a severe storm warning for DeKalb County until 5:15 p.m. today.

NWS Chicago reports say a storm was spotted over Malta and is moving east toward Sycamore at 25 mph. Wind gusts at 70 mph are to be expected.

Quarter-sized hail is expected, as well, creating potential damage to cars, houses, trees, people and animals.

The alert recommends people move into an interior room in the lowest floor of the building they're in.

NWS meterologist Eric Lenning said his office expects the storm to be larger in size and for hail to be expected across the board.

"In fact, we'd be surprised to not get hail," Lenning said.
