DHANGADHI:  A windstorm that battered Kailali in province 7 on Sunday night has claimed life of a woman and injured two others while destroying private and public property in the region.

56-year-old Charumati Budha of Gauri Ganga Municipality died after the roof of her house crashed onto her. Likewise, 21-year-old Bedaniya Chuadary and 40-year-old Shova Chaudary were injured in the incident.

Moreover, the weather phenomenon has also destroyed property including livestock, houses, schools and farms, electricity and telephone poles and transmission lines among others.

The powerful gusts have ripped off roofs of 202 houses and nine schools in the district.

Likewise, more than 7,000 pullets and hens of three hatcheries in Dhangadi’s Bishalnagar and Mohanpur were destroyed by the windstorm.

According to Nepal Electricity Authority, Dhangadhi officials, 180 electricity transmission poles and wires worth Rs 4million was ravaged by the windstorm resulting in a power outage after the storm passed.

This was the biggest windstorm that Kailali has seen in the past three decades, local Dipal Mahara said.

The full extent of the damage caused by the storm are yet to be assessed, Chief District Officer Rishi Ram Tiwari said.
