Ludhiana(DP Correspondent) – In a shocking incident, two undertrials went missing in Central jail Ludhiana on Monday. Both the inmates were real brothers and reportedly escaped from Jail. The role of Jail staff comes under scanner as two inmates went missing from high security of Central jail.The search operation was initiated inside and outside Jail for entire day but the jail staff and Police failed to trace the inmates. The missing inmates were identified as Jasvir Singh and Harvinder Singh. Both were lodged in jail in case of burglary at Andhra Bank, Rasulra branch in Khanna. They were arrested in March by Khanna Police for stealing Jewelry from bank locker and rifle of security guard.
After the incident, the Police suspected that inmates have escaped after scaling compound wall of jail near visitor room. Following the complaint of jail staff, the division number 7 Police have registered case against inmates. According to information, the Jail staff was counting the inmates on Sunday evening and found two inmates missing. Later the jail staff came to know about the disappearance of two brothers. The search operation was initiated by Jail staff but no avail. Later the police was informed about the incident. The Jail officials have checked the CCTV cameras but no clue about the inmates were found.
Sensing the situation, Inspector General (prisons) RK Arora, DIG, prisons Lakhvinder Singh Jakhar and officials of local police reached the Jail and initiated investigation. ADCP said the accused might have scaled the wall near the visitor room as they have spotted footprints near the wall. The investigation is on.
