Chandigarh(Narinder Jagga): The Punjab Government has described the use of EVMs in rural body election as impractical instead of ballot papers. Talking to reporters, the minister for Rural Development and Panchayat, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said that 10 members or above are to be elected in each and every Panchayat and if five candidates file nomination for each post, how will it be possible to fix 50 names on the EVMs. He was reacting on the petition filed in the High Court in this regard, today. But he said, whatever the Court decides will be followed.He said that election for Panchayats, Block Committees and Zila Prishad would be completed in the month of July.Minister said that hearing is going on the objection filed by the Peoples against the de-limitation at some places. He also said that the Department would award Rs 5 lacs as additional Development grant to those Panchayats, who will be declared unanimously during the election. Minister also told that the honorarium of 13,000 Sarpanchs and sweepers would be paid this month.
