B’pur police to make women self-reliant

The Brahmapur district police on Sunday launched a campaign named “Swayamsiddha” to ensure safety and security to women through awareness and make them socially and economically self-reliant.

“Swayamsiddha is a humble initiative in ensuring women’s safety and security through awareness, intervention and facilitation.

It is aimed at making women self-reliant and giving them enough confidence to protect themselves and ensure their safety,” said SP Pinak Mishra.

He said programme envisages in creating awareness, providing legal support through pro-active police intervention and facilitating to empower them socially and economically to enable them live life with dignity, self-reliance and without fear.

The Swayamsidhha comprises three divisions, Sachetanata (awarness), Suraksha (safety) and Shashaktikaran (empowerment).

Under Sachetanata intiative, awareness would be created among women of all groups about protection against sexual abuse, trafficking and domestic violence. Under Suraksha initiative, police services would be provided to women at door steps.

Similarly, under Shasaktikaran progamme, police would facilitate empowerment and livelihood of women, primarily victims of crime, in close coordination with other Government agencies, NGOs and civil society groups working in the field of women’s empowerment. Police’s duty would be that of a facilitator and a coordinator, said the SP.

Among others, MP Siddhant Mohapatra, Minister Surjya Narayan Patro, DIG Ashish Kumar Singh, Ganjam SP Brijesh Kumar Rai, BeMC Mayor K Madhavi, State Social Welfare Board Chairperson Latika Pradhan and many women personalities were present.
