Rain brings relief to parts of parched TS

Northern parts of the State experienced sweltering heat on Monday even as rain brought relief to a few other regions, including the capital city.

Maximum temperature in parts of Nizamabad and Adilabad remained over 42 degrees, notwithstanding isolated showers. Some locations in eastern and southern districts of Telangana received moderate rainfall under 64 mm but above 15 mm, as pointed out by the Telangana State Planning Development Society.

“Weather conditions of Monday are likely to last for two more days. Thundershowers only bring local cooling even if the maximum temperature recorded in a district is higher than normal,” said Y.K. Reddy, in-charge for IMD-Hyderabad centre. A north-south wind discontinuity or a trough is said to be causing local thunderstorms in Bhadadri-Kotegudem, Warangal and other eastern areas while also bringing rain in Mahbubnagar, Vikarabad and even Hyderabad, Mr. Reddy said. Moisture influx from the Arabian Sea carried by westerly winds is also helping fan the pre-monsoon activity.

Aswapuram in Bhadadri-Kotegudem district recorded the highest rainfall of 36.4 mm on Monday, followed by 29 mm in Dummugudem of the same district. Achampet in Nagarkurnoll received 27 mm rainfall.

Relatively insignificant amount rainfall was recorded in Hyderabad, mainly in northern areas of the city. The maximum temperature in the city is expected to remain under 40 degree Celsius during the next two days, according to IMD.
