CORALVILLE — A Coralville man has been accused of kidnapping and false imprisonment after police say he carried his girlfriend back to an apartment following an argument, in an effort prevent her form calling the police or his mother.

During an argument just before 10 p.m. Sunday in a Coralville apartment, the victim was scared after Aran Simawe, 28, hid her cellphone and picked up a hammer, threatening to destroy it, according to the criminal complaint. The victim then tried to escape down the hallway and call police, where police say Simawe carried her back to the apartment.

Simawe faces kidnapping in the third degree charge, a Class C felony, as well as a false imprisonment charge, a serious misdemeanor. He was still held in the Johnson County Jail Monday morning.
