‘AAP trying to deceive people on CCTV issue’

March organised to divert attention: BJP

The Leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta on Sunday called the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) planned march to the L-G office to demand installation of CCTV cameras all across Delhi a political gimmick meant to deceive the people once again.

He added that the march was being organised to divert attention from corruption cases being filed against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s nephew.

“In the past week, Mr. Kejriwal’s kin has been indicted in serious corruption cases, catching the AAP supremo between a rock and a hard place. Owing to the corruption charges reaching almost the doorsteps of the Delhi CM, he and his entire party have decided to rake up a new controversy with the L-G office in a bid to divert attention from his own misgivings,” Mr. Gupta said.

He added that the AAP was planning the act to somehow put the onus of fulfilling the promise made by AAP during the elections three and a half years back on the L-G when even when he has no role to play.

“The AAP government did not take any concrete action to fulfil their promise to the people since it has come to power. The purchase of the CCTV camera and their installation comes under the domain of the Delhi government. The purview of the committee formulated by the LG with various administrative officers is limited to address the policy framework aspect of the surveillance camera system including the establishment of a standing operating procedure to ensure that it does not become a tool to violate privacy of individuals,” Mr. Gupta said.

He accused the AAP government of politicising the issue and undermining the dignity of the office of the L-G.
