A person trapped in the wreckage of a serious crash has died.

Two cars crashed on Te Irirangi Drive in East Tamaki, Auckland at 11.59pm a spokesperson for police said. 

One person trapped in the wreckage died a short time after the crash despite attempts to resuscitate them, the spokesperson said.
