Polling officials from various places reached mustering and de-mustering centres to collect EVMs and VVPAT machines on Friday.

Rosario Pre University College in Hampankatta in the city was the centre for the Mangaluru City North Assembly constituency.

“There is a lot of writing work involved before the machines are handed over to us. It’s a bit cumbersome, but I am used to it,” said a lecturer from Puttur, who is retiring from service in the next few weeks. “I would have loved to do this duty in my taluk,” he said.

This lecturer is among the many polling officials from neighbouring taluks called for duty in the booths in the Mangaluru City North Assembly Constituency. “While around 600 personnel are from the city, the remaining 1,110 personnel for this Assembly constituency are from other taluks,” said an official said.

It’s a similar pattern for booths in Belthangady, Moodbidri, Mangaluru City South, Manglauru, Bantwal, Puttur and Sullia Assembly constituencies. There are reserve personnel for each Assembly constituency.

The mustering and de-mustering for the eight Assembly constituencies was done at four centres in Mangaluru, in Ujire, Modankapu in Bantwal, Tenkila in Puttur and in Sullia.

A total of 13,176 personnel have been deployed in the eight Assembly constituencies in Dakshina Kannada.
