ABILENE – Stephenville struggled to do something most Iowa Park opponents haven't been able to do this season – hit Hawk ace Chris Dickens.

Dickens twirled yet another gem Friday, giving up one run on three hits and a walk, leading Iowa Park to an 8-1 victory in Game 1 of a Region I-4A area-round series. Dickens also struck out nine batters.

Game 2 is set for 6 p.m. Saturday back at Abilene Christian.

The Hawks had just five hits in the game, but they were timely, including two-run singles by Derek Hostas and Justin Thornhill.

Tigers pull away from Clyde, 13-3, in Game 1

GRAFORD — Jacksboro may have lulled Clyde to sleep for three and a half innings Friday as the opener of the Region I-3A series was tied 1-1.

But the Tigers were really noisy the rest of the way with a breakout five-run bottom of the fourth and finished a 13-3 run-rule with five more in the sixth inning to take a 1-0 lead in the series, which continues at 1 p.m. Saturday at Abilene Christian University.

The five-run fourth was highlighted by a two-run home run by No. 9 hitter Tyler Harmonson, who also doubled and scored twice. Leadoff man Fernando Piedra was never retired, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs plus a walk, and Lathan Lowrance was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Calbe Nunley reached three times and scored every time.

Five Clyde hitters had one hit apiece as Christian Deal scored two runs. The Bulldogs fell to 24-4.

Luke Dixon didn't walk a batter in 5 2/3 innings and picked up the win for the Tigers (17-13-1). He allowed five hits and just one earned run.

Godley good as advertise in sweep of Burk

HENRIETTA — Godley wins with pitching and defense and again Chase Lummus was great for the Wildcats (24-1) against Burkburnett Friday with a two-hitter.

But the Wildcats' top guns on offense were impossible to stop, too. Bobby Goodloe, Easton James and Brett Brown occupy the top three places in the order. They were a combined 11-of-12 in Game 1's 15-1 victory with 10 runs scored and nine RBIs.

The Wildcats (25-1) took the nightcap, 11-1, with a six-run sixth inning to finish off the sweep.

Each of the leading trio had an extra-base hit to start Game 1 as Goodloe and James doubled before Brown made it 3-0 on a homer to center field. Will Bucholz (2-for-4, three RBIs) added a two-run homer for a 5-0 lead before Burkburnett came to bat. Brown (4-for-4, four runs, five RBIs) added another home run for 10 total bases. Brown was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs in the second game.

Burkburnett's Gentry Mullins and Andrew Hawkins had singles off Lummus in Game 1. Jacob McCleskey and Wyatt Grant were each 2-for-3 in Game 2.

The Wildcats’ Chase Lummus and Tad Thompson had homers in the second game.

Byrd blasts 3 homers as Wildcats sweep past Celeste

ERA — Christopher Dagley tossed a five-hit shutout to lead Archer City past Celeste, 6-0, in Game 1 of the Region II-2A Area playoffs Friday.

The Wildcats (21-7-2) scored twice in the first inning and never looked back as Dagley finished the job in 97 pitches. Connor Byrd was 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs. Kade Dagley and Reagan Johnson also had two hits.

The second game wasn’t even as close. And it was the Connor Byrd show to be sure. Byrd blasted two homers and drove in six runs in a 13-1 run-rule. Oh, and Byrd pitched a five-inning one-hit complete game with seven strikeouts for good measure.

Windthorst, Sam Rayburn going 3

PONDER — Facing a 1-0 defict after losing Game 1 earlier Friday the Windthorst Trojans fell behind 2-0 in the first inning of Game 2.

But it was going to take a lot more than that to get Windthorst to turn in its jerseys. Tyler Etheredge found a groove on the hill and struck out 10 and the Trojans clawed back to force a Game 3 Saturday with a 9-4 win in Game 2.

Windthorst pulled even twice at 3-3 in the third and at 4-4 in the fifth before breaking out with five in the seventh. Three bases-loaded walks, half of the six walks the Trojans drew, and a sacrifice that scored two sent home the runs.

Coby Schroeder was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Ethan Belcher scored three times for Windthorst (24-8-1).

Sam Rayburn (16-8) won the opener 14-4 as Seth Stephens went 4-for-4 with three home runs and six RBIs. Riley Hall pitched six innings of two-hit baseball and Windthorst committed five errors.
