Kejriwal seeks PM’s intervention on CCTV issue

BJP and Delhi Congress trying to stall project, tweets Chief Minister

Seeking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday asked him to instruct Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) Anil Baijal to allow the government’s CCTV project to be carried out.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Mr. Kejriwal sought an appointment in order to discuss the matter, days after Mr. Baijal ordered the setting up of a committee to form a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the project.

Mr. Kejriwal said the decision to form the committee when the project was at the stage of execution was taken in order to stall it.

He added that since the cameras were related to improving women’s security in the city, there should not be any politics over the matter.

Mr. Kejriwal said that the L-G had suddenly created a hurdle for the project and created the committee without informing the elected government.

Later, in a tweet Mr. Kejriwal said that the BJP and Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken were trying to stop the CCTV project.

“BJP, LG and Maken together tried to stop mohalla clinics last year. They successfully delayed it by several months. Now, they want to scuttle CCTV cameras. V v unfortunate [sic],” he tweeted.
