Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Karnataka chief ministerial candidate BS Yeddyurappa on Saturday expressed confidence that his party will form the new government on May 17.

“I will go to Delhi on the 15th and meet the Prime Minister and others. I will request them to come to the swearing-in ceremony which will happen most likely on the 17th,” he told reporters after casting his vote.

Yeddyurappa, who is contesting from Shikaripura, said his party is going to win between 145-150 seats in the 224-member assembly.

“People are fed up with the Siddaramaiah government. I urge the people to come out and vote for BJP. I assure the people of Karnataka that I’m going to give good governance,” he told ANI.

Just before the polling began for the assembly elections in the state, Yeddyurappa was seen performing puja at his residence. He also visited a temple in Shikarpur.

Yeddyurappa was the chief minister of the state from 2008 to 2011. However, in 2011, he had to resign after charges of profiting from illegal mining and land deals. Yeddyurappa floated his own party, the Karnataka Janata Paksha in 2012, but returned to the BJP a year later.
