To improve it’s efficiency, Uttar Pradesh Police has entered into an understanding with IIT, Kanpur on Thursday. The UP Police also held discussions with officials of World Bank to facilitate better transportation and security to passengers on national and state highways.

Interestingly, after a series of sensational incidents on highways, including some gang rapes in western UP, the UP Police in August 2016 had identified five national and five state highways to introduce `highway patrolling force’ which has so far failed to make an impact.

Later, a decision was taken to use UP-100 teams to man highways particularly `Lucknow-Agra Expressway’, but that too failed to give any positive result.

Now with financial assistance of 40 million dollars from World Bank, the UP Police brass claimed that they would soon form a `Highway Police Force’ and start it’s services on NH-2 (from Mathura to Varanasi), NH-25 (from Lucknow to Kanpur) etc covering 824 kilometers.

A communiqué from DGP office confirmed that DGP, OP Singh met World Bank officials in this regard and representatives of New Zealand in Lucknow on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the UP Police also held discussions with officials of IIT Kanpur and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance working of the state force.

Experst from IIT, Kanpur would facilitate officers and personnel on data/video analytics, and train cops to crack cyber crime/ cyber security, in setting a cyber laboratory, a high technique social media lab, improve transfer of information from police wireless centre, help police in purchasing drones, facilitate purchase of low cost breath analyzer and above all, facilitate crowd management analytics for Kumbh Mela -2019.
