The Vanport Bridge will close to all traffic for an hour Saturday morning, PennDOT announced Friday afternoon.
The closure is “unrelated to PennDOT,” the agency said in an email, but the exact reason for the closure wasn’t specified.
Spokesman Steve Cowan said the closure is related to “river traffic,” but added that PennDOT “can’t provide any additional information” on the closure.
Starting at 7 a.m. Saturday, traffic between exits 38 and 39 on Interstate 376 will be restricted to a single lane. An hour later, ramp closures in the area of the Vanport Bridge will be enacted in both directions. The road will then close to all traffic between 8:30 and 11 a.m.
Traffic traveling eastbound will be detoured onto Route 68 toward Midland. Drivers will then be directed over the Shippingort Bridge, onto Shippingport Road and then onto northbound Route 18.
Westbound drivers will be directed onto northbound Route 18. They will then be directed across the Rochester-Monaca Bridge, onto Route 51 and then back onto Interstate 376.
PennDOT announced last weekend a similar closure of the bridge, although the closure never happened.
