Officials of Public Works Department in Pratapgarh-Fatehpur circle overlooked directions from the Head of the Department on awarding vertical tenders to private parties. The section awarded several private tenders without ensuring that material for the work was procured from department-run plants.

Raising objections to the malpractice, President of Diploma Engineers Sangh (PWD), Hari Kishore Tewari wrote to the PWD HoD demanding suspension and departmental proceedings against superintending engineers of Pratapgarh-Fathepur circle. He also advised t hat necessary amendments be made in the contracts so that material and other gadgets were obtained from government-run plants.

Tewari claimed that on March 21, 2017, HoD of PWD, VK Singh issued a circular directing officials that no private parties be given tenders for laying repair of roads within 50 kilometers of department-run plants and in case it was necessary, then it must be ensured that the contractors took supply from government-run plants.

The circular said that anyone found to be overlooking the said directions would be punished and departmental proceedings would be initiated against him.

Tewari said that recently officials of Pratapgarh-Fatehpur circle floated vertical tenders and awarded contracts of road repair to some private parties. He gave examples of Thariyaon-Asodhar Road, Fatehpur-Joniha Road, Khaga-Kishenpur Road etc which were awarded to private contrators without ensuring that material was taken from government plant.

Tewari said that he has written to the HoD of PWD to initiate action against the officials concerned so that no one followed such corrupt practices in future.
